Your Linksys wireless password is the key to secure your wireless broadband connection from unauthorized access. You should make it a point to come up with and put a strong password when you set up your wireless broadband connection with your router. Your Linksys router password will ensure that your privacy and internet access is protected from intruders.
To prevent and keep the rouges from accessing your wireless broadband connection from your router, you need to set up a strong Linksys password. You must be aware that your router comes with a default password. However, you need to change this password as it allows the rouges to gain easy access to your wireless connection to do their malicious acts or steal broadband connection from you.
It is important that you create a strong password for your wireless connection through your router. You can do that easily by following these steps:
1.Open the web based set up page of your router using your browser. In the address bar, type in 192.168.1.1 which shall bring you to the interface of your router.
2.A window will pop up prompting you to key the user name and password. Leave the username blank but enter “admin” on the password field as this is the default Linksys router password.
3.On the web page that you see on your screen as you enter the Linksys interface, click on administration located on the upper right portion of the menu, specifically second to the last tab.
4.Enter your desired password, a string of characters composed of preferably alphanumeric combination, using both upper and lower cases that is meaningful to you but difficult for others to guess. Click on save and you have your new password working to protect from unauthorized configuration of your router settings.
To enhance security of your broadband wireless connection further, you also need to do the following:
1.Change your SSID or Service Set Identifier. Just like your wireless password, your wireless broadband connection comes with a default ID usually the name of your network. Create a unique name that is difficult for others to associate with your connection.
2.Alternatively, you may also want to disable your SSID broadcast. When this feature is turned on, your SSID is broadcasted and appears on every computer within the range of your broadband connection. No one will be able to find your network and connect to it as the SSID is hidden.
Securing your broadband connection with Linksys wireless password is fairly easy as long as you know how to do it step by step. Enhancing the security of your broadband connection protects and saves you from malicious attacks by rogues and unauthorized access from people who wants to enjoy broadband connection and yet doesn’t want to pay for their own connection.
